Make Amends without Causing additional Pain

DEAR LARRY:

I am seeking your advice on how to restitute wrongful relationships. Many years ago I dated a number of married men.  Sometime later, on a friend’s advice, I sought out the wife of one of them, confessed and apologized to her.  But the husband (my ex-partner) called me in a great fury afterwards to scold me about the immaturity of what I did. That has made me very reluctant to do such for the other cases.  But those other cases have been bothering me because I want to get right with God.  How do I restitute the other cases?

Thanks. Debbie

Honoring God with Restitution

DEAR LARRY:

Hi Larry,
I am 17 year old male going through so much and wondering if I need restitution. When I was younger I did a lot of sexual touching and other actions many times with my younger female cousin. I know I’ve hurt her & I also hurt myself.  I have confessed my sin to God, asking him for forgiveness.  But I hear two voices in my head.  One is telling me tell my whole family what I did and then I will have a clean conscious.  The other one is telling me that God already forgave me and it’s past, forgotten, erased and washed away. I don’t know which one I should trust or if I need to make restitution. It’s driving me crazy with these feelings of guilt.  I don’t know exactly what God wants me to do.

Also when I was a lot smaller God brought it up to me when I made my brother touch or kiss a body part that shouldn’t be touched.  I really need guidance and help please. What should I do?  Should I just let it all go or try to make restitution?

I’m also wrestling with homosexuality and I feel these two sins right here are keeping me from being free.

Does God condone torture?

Dear LarryDEAR LARRY:

I have spoken to many Christians (some of them pastors) and they have told me that torturing enemy prisoners is morally acceptable on the grounds that it saves innocent lives. I find this difficult to accept at face value.  What does the Bible say about the subject of torture?  Does God condone torture?  If so, under what circumstances?  Thank you for your time in responding.

Clothed in Righteousness, Not Sin

bigstock-Online-Shopping-3850375DEAR LARRY:

How can I make restitution? I have committed so many sins in the past, by stealing.  Before I knew Christ I used to order online with fake names and addresses to buy clothes, and many things from different online shops.  And now I don’t know how to make restitution.  (I have used the clothes.)

Restitution – Making Amends God’s Way

DEAR LARRY:

I have heard many messages on restitution and need some counsel on what to do.  When I was small I used to steal my parents’ money and use it to buy things in school.  Sometimes my Mum caught me and punished me.  I also used to steal money from my Dad’s shop where the sales person kept it.  When I was about 16 years old I stopped it.  At 18 years, I became born again.  I have told my Mum that I’m sorry for what I did.  I really do not know the amount of money I have stolen from my Dad’s shop.  How do I make restitution in this case?  Do I need to go to my Dad’s employer?  What will you want me to do?

Finding Freedom From Condemnation Through Restitution

Jesus Erases Guilt

“Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

About a year ago, I answered a question from someone who had sinned against someone else, and wanted to know about making restitution. Read the Article Here. After that question was asked and answered though, we have been surprised to see several people commenting on that one question and answer … mostly with their own sins against someone else, where restitution may be necessary.

Paying Back Old Loans

Cash box

From: Angela:

I stole money from my employers, paid it back and still did not learn the lesson.  I stole again and am now paying back slowly what the court tells me to pay and am on probation.  This has been for 10 years now (it was a huge amount of money).  I am now on Social Security Disability.  Also, the man I was living with gave me money to help with the restitution and I told him I would pay it back.  The ex-live in has not asked for the money.  So after my honest seeking of what Jesus wants me to do and praying about this issue I continue to get peace, but am puzzled about paying this money back.

If for the first time in my adult life I am peaceful, am dedicated and committed to reading scripture daily, pray for the world, churches, government, my church, homeless, abused people, sick people and my family and friends and I thank God daily for what He is doing in my life…how can this be if I am still in sin by not paying the money back to my ex-boyfriend to this date.  When God tells us He remembers our sin no more then how can my not making restitution on that loan keep me either out of heaven or be judged on a sin already forgiven when I am in front of God on judgement day?

How is that sin any different from any other such as one having filthy thoughts about a person in their heart even though they don’t act on it and ask forgiveness…doesn’t God forgive all sin when we truly repent and turn away.   In my heart I want to pay this money back but at this time can not.  Please help clear this up for me.  I read a story from someone else on your site and it perplexed me with the answer given even though I understood…does that make sense?

How to Start a Christian Non-Profit

Christian Non-ProfitDEAR LARRY

I want to start a Christian non-profit. Are there Biblical principles that should be considered? I mean is there a right or wrong way to run a Christian ministry? How do I make sure that it doesn’t become one of the negative stereotypes that I see talked about on your site?

Thanks. Tom Speirs

Should I Create A Prayer Room?

DEAR LARRY

I live in Chennai, India. I need advice from you as a brother in Christ.

My house is surrounded by many Hindu families. We stay in the first floor front flat and the other three flats are tenanted presently by Hindu families.

This morning after my private prayer, I had a very strong thought that once the flat is vacated, I have to turn it into a prayer hall.

One flat is getting vacated in August. This morning after my private prayer, by the grace of our Lord, I had a very strong thought that once the flat is vacated, I have to turn it into a prayer hall. In the wall, I want to display the verse Ephesians 6:18.

The prayer room can be used by our family when there is a requirement of worship / prayer, for my neighbors, for believers who want to pray, Bible study, fellowship, etc. There is a prayer meeting going on by a believer every Sunday evening nearby wherein they can conduct it in the prayer room.

Also, I have vacant plots around the city I could turn into prayer halls and the local neighbors from any religion can walk in, pray, understand the gospel, and come to Christ. And it can be used by local believers for prayer, fellowship, worship, etc.

My plan is not to collect any offerings by the grace of God and this place should never become a commercial activity. My intention is not to take an offering and depend only on our Lord Jesus Christ for the needs.

My wife may not like this idea since I spoke to her once and she is not for it. I have not told her yet about this latest idea. I want to fast and pray, and then tell her after the time is ripe. Please pray to our Lord and give your valuable advice on this idea.

I need proper prayer & advice from believers to take this forward.

How Do I Make Restitution?

DEAR LARRY:

I am 47 years old male from Chennai, India. I am a born Christian regular to protestant Church here. At the age of 42 in July 25, 2007, I have accepted Lord Jesus Christ as my Lord, Saviour & Friend and became converted / born-again.

Before conversion, like Zaheus in the Holy Bible, I have earned unrighteous money in way of bribes, kick backs, in my official capacity.  Yesterday, I was meditating on St. Matthew Chapter 6.  I prayed to our Lord that I have accepted You and You are living within me.  Please tell me & guide me how to restitute the same.

This I have not taken from any individual, but from companies where there is no ownerships and I cannot repay to them now. The part the money is lying now in my various land properties and the house where I stay now.  I have asked Lord to reveal how to do this.

Do you have any suggestions on this.

- Maxwell

Should Christians Vote?

Too Political, christian nation, right wing politics

Dear Larry,

With the national election coming closer, I was told by someone that I am not “godly” because I vote in national election.  Saying that the Lord is in total control and voting is unchristian.  Can you please help me to understand why I shouldn’t be voting?  Thanks – Carol

Does Email Evangelism Work?

DEAR LARRY:

I would love your feedback in regards to how I reach out to people. I share the truth about the Bible through emails. I often receive emails along with additional addresses, and this is how I reach out to others. I love serving Him!

Please point out anything that might be a turn off to someone that just has never heard of Jesus before

May you please take the time to read over my message, and please feel free to point out anything that might be a turn off to someone that just has never heard of Jesus before. I want the message to be as effective as possible. I just hope that the message is an eye opener, God will take care of the rest.

Thank you in advance, and may God bless you richly!!!  Nancy
